So now that we've all met Matt Nathanson, I think it's time for a rewind and a recap of this weekend. Because this is my music blog, I feel somewhat obligated to talk about more than just my disproportionate passion for my guitar (Martin is his name, btw).
So this past Friday, I had Wind Ensamble in the morning, Jazz band in the afternoon, a rehearsal at 5 for marching band, and a football game to play at 7. I didn't want to look at my instrument (a melophone) by the end of the night, but the games always end up being great despite the billion hours of playing.
Now that's out of the way, I'm making my way back over to Martin.
So that camp I told you about--the one that gives me almost all of my inspiration (if not directly, then at least the people from camp inspire me)-- is the camp I will be working at all next summer (if I get the job). About 4 years ago at this camp, somebody played the song "Nothing Better" by the Postal Service at a campfire, and I fell in love with it. I also made a great friend at this camp, and "Smile" by Uncle Kracker became our song. After another long story and a few interesting curveballs, I ended up deciding to mash the two together. An unlikely pair, I know. So I added a few verses of my own, and this is what happened:

I kinda killed the original feel of "Nothing Better"... but it's aight. There was no other way to make it work.
More later,
Bergie
